Xiaomi has once again decided not to sell their top product in India. According to the six-year-old Chinese smartphone manufacturer, they won't be bringing the new Xiaomi Mi Note 2 and Xiaomi Mi Mix to the Indian market.
"As a company we have been around for two years in India. We still have a very small portfolio (there). We have one flagship (phone) per year and this year it is the Xiaomi Mi5. Next year we will have another flagship phone. The flagship phone market in India is still very small... we want to keep flagship portfolio very tight in India so the new phones are only for the China market," Hugo Barra, company's vice president for international operations said in China.
The Xiaomi Mi Note 2 and the Mi Mix are being stated as game changing devices in the smartphone industry, even in developed countries like USA, Xiaomi has started making a mark in terms of reliable flagship devices, but the company is struggling with the surge in demand. Xiaomi is still focusing on its huge native market, China which also happens to be one of the biggest smartphone market in the world.
Mi5 is Xiaomi's current flagship in the country but it failed to keep up with the competition like OnePlus 3 at the time of launch and now, faces tough competition from the Lenovo Z2 Plus and LeEco Le Pro 3 despite a substantial price cut. Xiaomi's performance has been exceptional in the mid-low range segment for the Indian market but it is definitely losing ground in the fast-growing flagship segment.
The move has left Xiaomi mobile fans disappointed in India with the company facing a lot of critique for launching devices in India that are nearing the end of their life-cycles or are the low-end versions of devices sold in China. Though the company has mentioned the importance of Indian market, it has failed to cater to an entire segment of premium-phone buyers.
